San Pablo Team for Youth

San Pablo Team for Youth (SPTFY) has been redirected as the funding arm of the Community Schools Initiative to provide funds to public and non-profit agencies wanting to expand and/or enhance school-based programs and services for children, youth, and families. 

The San Pablo Team for Youth model utilizes a biennial Request for Qualifications (RFQ) process that creates a list of service providers qualified to provide services that would positively impact the lives of San Pablo youth – to keep youth in school and connected to their families and communities, provide positive youth development opportunities, and provide youth with a supportive, safe and healthy environment.  Qualified service providers remain on an eligibility list for two years.  Grants awarded as a result of the RFQ are for one year and offers the potential for contract renewal for a period of up to two years.

Coordination of Community Schools


Bay Area Community Resources (BACR) provides a full time Community School Coordinator for Helms Middle School and Dover Elementary School and a full time Case Manager for Lake Elementary School. The Coordinators and Case Manager contribute to San Pablo’s vision for its children, youth and families by coordinating services to ensure all children and youth receive equitable support for intellectual, social, emotional and physical health and well-being.

Out of School Time


Bay Area Community Resources (BACR) expanded their partnership with Bayview Elementary School and Riverside Elementary School to deliver an out of school time (OST) program that will help meet the needs of the highest risk students. The OST programs offer a variety of academic support and enrichment activities. BACR hired additional part-time after school program instructors at each school to enable the schools to expand program capacity to serve an additional 20 students per school.

Violence Prevention & Intervention


Familias Unidas offers mental health services as violence prevention and intervention strategies for uninsured young people and their families at Dover Elementary, Lake Elementary, Helms Middle School, and Richmond High as well as a parenting education program at Lake. Services expand the existing "Youth Matters" mental health/violence prevention program that currently operates at some schools.

 Youth Leadership & Development Familias Unidas operates a youth leadership development program for recent immigrant Latino youth, at Helms. Services expand their existing "Proyecto Bienestar" youth development program at the school, by implementing curriculum (one for young men and one for young women) to address youth failing school and experiencing significant barriers due to the challenges of acculturation into the school environment, their communities, and the overall culture. The program also includes case management/service linkages and peer mentoring components.

Violence Prevention & Intervention
 
Bay Area Peacekeepers (BAP) facilitates groups for students who are referred by administrators for behavioral issues. The groups offer structured time for like skills training, group discussion and individual support to address risky behaviors. On an as-needed basis, BAP will implement the Violence Prevention and Intervention System (VPIS) to prevent the eruption or escalation of violence on campus and/or in the surrounding area during the school hours and/or immediately after school hours.

Violence Prevention & Intervention



YMCA of the East Bay provides Trauma Informed Counseling for teens who are enrolled at Richmond High School, who have experienced trauma with or without PTSD, and/or substance abuse. Other services the “Trauma-Informed” counselor will provide are one-on-one counseling for students, engaging with parents/guardians at home or at school, and providing psycho-education and family sessions to support the work of the adolescent.
